Profound wisdom from
those more eloquent than I
Each year I start a journal. I never set out for it to be a 'Dear Diary' read, but rather an amalgamation of anything that makes me stop to think, smile and wonder about the world around me and how I interact with it.
It occurred to me that, although this blog encourages my will to write about what captures my attention in the news among other things, I could also be a reflection of the learning that has transformed my world this year. Within the pages of my journal I borrow the words of writers, philosophers, friends and family that sometimes say it better than I ever could.
What I love most about these words is that, at some point or another, old or new, they reach out to so many and tie us all together with the same hope and truth.
Here is a collection of some of my favorites! I hope they speak to you as much as they do to me.
"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things"
Henry Miller
"When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the
cages of our personality
and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.
Cool, unlying life will rush in.
D. H. Lawrence
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step”
Lao Tzu
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams"
Eleanor Roosevelt
"Aspire to inspire before you expire"
"An eye for an eye only ends
up making the whole world blind"
Gandhi
